Funeral services for Mack "Lib" Lilbourn Gower, Jr., 82, of Leland will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Leland. He died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at his home. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
He was born on February 14, 1932 in Leland, MS where he graduated from Leland High School. He had lived his entire life in Leland where he grew up farming with his father. Mr. Gower was retired from Olin Chemical Company and Delta Branch Experiment Station. He was an avid sportsman, loving to fish and duck and quail hunt. He also enjoyed baseball and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Leland.
Mr. Gower is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Gower; son, Mack Gower (Lori); daughter, Kathy Gower; 3 sisters, Mildred Zeigler, Frances Read (John) and Annette Brackeen (Lee); 2 grandchildren, Matt and Julie Gower; and great granddaughter, Sarah Gower; and special family, Sandra Jordan and Dee Dee Holloway.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Washington County Chapter, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.
