EMANUELE ABATANTUONO, 100, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of North Providence, a salesman of fruits and vegetables with a pushcart on Federal Hill, while also working at Converse Rubber Co. in Warren, died Friday at his home, surrounded by family and friends.
He was the husband of the late Anna (Caruso) Abatantuono.
Born in Foggia, Italy, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Josephine (Russo) Abatantuono.
In 1914 he began selling fruits and vegetables. Mr. Abatantuono and his wife then opened Manny's Red & White Market at 22 2Plain St., Providence. He was the butcher and Mrs. Abatantuono kept the books.
The couple bought Kiddieland at the former Rocky Point Park, Warwick. They retired to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 1962.
Mr. Avatantuono loved gardening, cooking, shuffleboard and bocce. He was a life-long Boston Red Sox fan, and was introduced and recognized upon reaching his 100th year, at one of the team's spring training games.
Mr. Abatantuono is survived by a daughter, 6 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Michael A. Abatuno.
