Nina Virginia Dawes was the daughter of Henry Levi and Caroline Augusta Windle-Dawes. She was born in Nebraska being the youngest of 6 children. After her parents separated, she was raised by a foster family with the surname "Little".
Through her father, she was a direct descendent of both Richard Warren and William White, two of the original pilgrims that arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts on the Mayflower in 1620.
