Joseph E. Rizk, 93 of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness.

Joe was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of Elias and Jameley (Saab) Rizk. Joe grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Trinity High School. He received a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University. Joe worked for General Electric and was a classified radar technician during World War II in the South Pacific.

Joe married Jeanne Beckner on Jan. 28, 1943, in Clear Lake, Iowa. The couple lived in San Francisco and Schenectady, N.Y., until moving back to Sioux City in 1946. Joe entered the family business, Inter State Oil Company, later known as Inter State Auto Supply, and co-owned and operated it for many years. Jeanne died Jan. 28, 2000, in Sioux City.

Joe married Jo Ellen (Shields) Olmscheid on Dec. 1, 2001.

Joe was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf and pitch with his friends.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ellen Rizk of Sioux City; six children, Bob Rizk (Sandy) of Santa Paula, Calif., Susan Haggar of Omaha, Tom Rizk (Janet) of Carpinteria, Calif., Joanie Rizk of Dakota Dunes, Julie Jennerjahn of Taos, N.M., and Dr. Bill Rizk (Pam) of Dakota Dunes; a stepdaughter, Susan Kamen (Jerald) of Aberdeen, S.D., his brother, 99-year-old Dr. Elmer Rizk of Sioux City; two sisters, 104-year-old Freda Sullivan of Omaha, and 101-year-old Rose DeGrasse of San Antonio, Texas; 16 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Jameley; his wife, Jeanne; his brother, Fred; his sister, Josephine; his daughter, Jane; and his grandson, Michael Kuehl.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or the Michael Kuehl-Jackson Recovery Fund.
