Jess A. Bishop, 94, died July 25, 2014, at Thorne Care Center. He was born March 21, 1920, to Jess V. and Rebecca E. (Sparks) Bishop, in Fairfax, Okla.
He married Elva P. Kerns on June 29, 1947, in Hutchinson. She died May 29, 2007. From 1941, to 1947, he was a corporal in the United States Army in the 39th Signal Battalion and was stationed in the Philippines. Jess was a section foreman at Cessna Aircraft for 20 years before he retired in 1982. He also owned his own business, Bishop Tractor Service.
Jess was a "Jess of all trades" as he was a carpenter and also a certified electrician. He built the family home in 1949, where he lived until his move to Wesley Towers. Jess was a nature and animal lover who loved to camp with his family that he loved dearly.
Survivors include: daughters, Carol Heisler (Mike), Kingman, Connie Constant (Terry), and Christine Rounds, both of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Maureen Dowsey (Chris), Hutchinson, Colleen Bishop, Wichita, Lori Beaker (Monte), Salina, Amanda Trimmell, Parsons, Jennifer Bishop, Newton, Max Constant (Gabe), Kileen, Texas, Damyn Price, Hutchinson; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Wayne Bishop, a sister, a brother, and two halfbrothers.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Richard Brooks presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS, 67501.
