Racing driver. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Stuck was called up into the German Army in 1917, and after the war, became a dairy farmer in Bavaria. Stuck became friends with Julius Schreck, the chauffeur to a local politician, Adolf Hitler. In 1926 he began to race for Astro-Daimler. In the 1930s, because of the Depression, Austro-Daimler and Mercedes pulled out of motor racing. Stuck's friend suggested he should approach Hitler to see if he could help. He promised he would get a German car when he came to power. Hitler later kept his promise and Stuck came into the Auto-Union works team. In 1934 Stuck won races in Germany, Switzerland and Czechoslovakia, but the following year Achille Varzi and Berd Rosemeyer also joined the team with Stuck struggling to keep with them. Later with Varzi's drug addiction and Rosemeyer's death, Stuck became their leading driver again. After the War, he began racing again by claiming an Austrian nationality and raced a variety of cars until his retirement at the age of 60. Hans Stuck's son Hans-Joachim Stuck also became a racing driver.
