Irwin "Al" Alexander, 64, of Sanford, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at Bortz Health Care of Rose City. Irwin was born on March 21, 1949 in Midland ,to the late Grover and Anna (Reist) Alexander.

Irwin worked for many years at a sugar plant and doing construction. He loved to fish and went as often as he could before his health stopped him. Irwin was also a Vietnam Veteran and served his country with much honor and pride.

Irwin is survived by his step-daughter, Marcie Lastoski; sisters, Reba Darden and Vivian (Doug) Bass; and brother-in-law Dave Griswold. In addition to his parents, Irwin was preceded in death by his sister Ella Griswold; and long time fishing buddy and uncle Junior Reist.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at the Lighthouse Body of Christ Church, 693 W. Isabella Road, between 7 and 8 mile roads. Military honors will be under the auspices of the Midland County Veterans. On-line condolences can be sent to smithminer.com
