Jess Stratford Jr., 71, died Nov. 2, 1995, at Via Christi, St. Joseph Campus, Wichita.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church with Father Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will be in Pleasant Plain Cemetery, Byers, Kansas. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary.
He was born May 20, 1924 at Cullison, the son of Jesse F. and Opal Whybrew Stratford.
On Aug. 8, 1947, he married Ruth Hatzenbuehler. She survives.
A farmer and stockman, he served on the board of directors of Iuka Cooperative Exchange from 1970-1988, during the expansion and merger with Pratt Equity Exchange. He was chairman of the Board of Education of USD 438 from 1966, when the Byers, Cullison, Coats and Sawyer schools were consolidated into the Skyline district, and served until 1983. He served on the board, the staff and as county chairman of the Pratt County ASCS Board for more than 25 years.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jim, Pratt, and Randy, Byers; two daughters, Cindy LaFleur, Wichita, and Crystal Ward, Colwich; two brothers, Paul, Grove, Okla., and Bob, Ava, Mo; a sister, Alice Smith, Pratt; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Stratford Scholarship Fund in care of the mortuary.
