Irene Messman, age 87, of 2715 33rd St., Two Rivers, died Thursday morning, November 3, 1994, at North Ridge Care Center. Funeral Services will be 11 a.ml. on Saturday, November 5, 1994, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Creeks. Rev. Maurice Hoppe officiating with burial at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. She was born December 19, 1906, in the town of Gibson, daughter of the late Milo and Carrie Schenian Dushek. She attended Joint 6 District School, Manitowoc High School, Manitowoc Teachers College and Stevens Point University. She taught school for five years in Manitowoc County and later in Oconto, Wisconsin. On September 5, 1934, she married Herbert Messman Senior at Melnik. The couple farmed in the town of Two Creeks for 33 years. He preceded her in death August 30, 1979. She was past president of the Mishicot P.T.A., a member of the county library committee, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Two Creeks, Dorcas Society, church choir, a Sunday School teacher, member of the Twin Elder Homemakers and the Senior Citizens. As a writer, she had childrens stories published all over the United States. She also won first place nationally in the Homemakers essay contest. She also had a childrens book (Adam Crow) and an ethnic book about Czeks and Zenda published. She won second place in the Wisconsin Yarn Contest. She also had a Czek paper and translated and published an article about Melnik In Czecho. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Herbert Junior and Carol, rural Two Rivers, Charles and Claire, Two Rivers, David and Jane, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Floyd Peterson, Two Rivers; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Friends may call at the Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels from 5-8 p.m. Friday evening, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
