Singapore Leader. A native of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, he served as Singapore's Second Deputy Prime Minister, a post he held from 1980 to 1985. Rajaratnam also served as Singapore's Minister for Culture from June 3, 1959, to August 9, 1965, Minister for Foreign Affairs from August 9, 1965, to June 1, 1980, Minister for Labour from 1968 to 1971, and Senior Minister from 1985 to until his retirement from politics in 1988. He died three days before his 91st birthday, of heart failure.
