Mary Langfit Farquar was described in a family history by Agnes Farquar Jordan as "..dispostition strong will, clear headed, generous hearted, full of energy, good manager for her will was to do. Was a prominent person in her day, was relied on in trouble and in sickness. Physicians often referred to 'Mother Farquar' especially sickness with children. She had splendid health.. Was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She married Thomas Farquar November 3, 1807 in Pennsylvania before the couple came to Harrison County.

The daughter of Revolutionary War patriot William Langfitt, Mary and her husband were pioneer settlers of Corydon. Her brother Phillip married Martha Farquar.
