John Evens, 93, Albany

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Seven Dolors Catholic Church for John Evans, 93, who died Saturday at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home.

The Revs. Corwin Collins and John Eidenschink will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military rites by Albany American Legion.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Brenny Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Albany followed by Albany American Legion at 8:30.

John Evens was born Feb. 17, 1897, in Farming to William and Mary (Willenbring) Evens. He married Louise Klassen Oct. 24, 1922, in St. Martin and farmed many years in the Albany and Farming area. He was a veteran of World War I, a member and past custodian of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, and a lifetime member of Albany American Legion.

Survivors include his sons and daughter, Jerome and Mrs. Graydon (Vi) Baggenstoss, Albany; Marcellus and Alcuin, St. Cloud; Stanley and Sylvester, Fairbanks, Alaska; Leander, San Francisco, Calif.; sister, Veronica, St. Cloud, 33 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife on Dec. 20, 1973; son, Ronald; five brothers, two sisters, one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
