Mrs. Rita Shumate Huie, age 72, began her life in heaven on August 15, 2014. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Cor: 5:17.
Rita was born January 29, 1942, in North Wilkesboro, NC to Council and Mae Shumate. She
was a graduate of Wilkes Central High School. She was employed at Sturdivant Life Insurance where she faithfully worked for years. Rita was also employed by Bi-Lo and Kmart where she worked as a DSD receiver.
On May 27, 1962, she married Bobby Dean Huie Sr.. She had four children, Bobby, Annette, Veronica and Chris. While the children were young, Rita took time off from work to be a stay at home Mom and gave to her children the gift of time spent together, which is priceless.
Rita was happiest when spending time with family. Singing was a big part of her life. She also loved to shop, especially for shoes. She was an amazing cook and left a lasting memory on the taste buds of anyone who ever ate her food. Rita had a caring, giving heart and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Rita was a member of Center Baptist Church.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Council and Mae Shumate.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bobby Dean Huie, Sr.; two sons, Bobby and Chris; two daughters, Annette and Veronica; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; four sisters and four brothers.
The funeral service will be held at Center Baptist Church, North Wilkesboro, NC on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 4:00 with Dr. Monroe Huffman officiating the service. The family will receive from 2:00 until 4:00 prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Center Baptist Church Cemetery.
