Throughout her husband’s career, it was Mrs. Byron who supplied much of the inspiration which prompted him to invest his time and energy so unselfishly for the betterment of the community in which they made their home and reared their family. A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Byron was to see her only daughter, Mrs. William Preston lane, Jr., become the first lady of the State of Maryland. Through her daughter, too, she was to witness with pride the succession of four generations within her lifetime, with the birth of her great-grandson, Stanhope Scott Goddard, III. Conservative and retiring, though renowned locally as a gracious hostess, Mrs. Byron consistently shunned the limelight. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Lane, grandchildren, Miss Dorothy Byron Lane, NY City; Mrs. Stanhope Scott Goddard, Jr., of Greenwich, Ct.; Lewis T. Byron, III, a medical student at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore; Julian Keedy Byron, a student at Severn School, Annapolis; and a niece, Miss Helen Bishop, Carlisle, Pa.
Funeral services were held at the home, 405 North Potomac Street; interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
