Joseph J McGowan, 64, of 1516 Cleveland Ave. SW, died at a local hospital after a long illness Sunday.
Mr. McGowan was a lifelong resident of Birmingham. He was employed at Ingalls Iron works before retiring due to ill health.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Alice Stribling, and two brothers, Frank A. McGowan and John R. McGowan, all of Birmingham, and several nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tonight at Johns-Ridout's Elmwood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by Mass at 9:30 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Msgr. George Keyes will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood.
Pallbearers will be Richard Sandefur, J. E. Sandefur, W. C. Jenks, Louis Heerten, Thomas Banks and Pat McGowan.
