Larry the son of Martha A. Henry, step son of Willie Henry of Gary Indiana and the son of of McKinley Jones who predeceased him; enlisted in the US Marine Corps on July 19 1967 in Chicago IL. He arrived in Vietnam on December 22 where he was assigned to and served with Company I, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the month the Battalion was conducting combat operations in the Gio Linh District of Quang Tri Province and on May 25 and 26 engaged a large NVA force in the vicinity of Ky Truck and north of Vinh Quan Thuong. Following an artillery barrage the Marines attacked the NVA who fought back from bunkers and fortified positions inflicting casualties of twenty-two men where were killed in the action for the Marines. One of the casualties during the battle was PFC Larry Jones who was killed by hostile rifle fire.
