Sylvia Vogel, 99, of Kiel went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 29, 2014. She had been a resident at the Homestead Care Center, New Holstein for the past four years. She is the former Sylvia Voigt, born December 4, 1914 in the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Edwin & Anna (Maurer) Voigt. Sylvia attended Rockville School and was a 1933 graduate of Kiel High School. On September 8, 1937 she was united in marriage to Lester W. Vogel at St. Peter UCC in Kiel. Sylvia took great pride in raising her family and being a homemaker until the death of Lester on July 28, 1972. After his death she became a CNA and worked at Calumet Homestead for 7 years until her retirement. Sylvia was a lifetime member of St. Peter UCC, Kiel. She was a 35 year member of the Quit Qui Oc Women's Thursday Morning League and belonged to bowling leagues for many years at Wagner Lanes. In her past years, Sylvia was an avid golfer and bowler. She had enjoyed ice fishing with her children and grandchildren on Lake Winnebago and family trips muskie fishing to Pelican Lake and North Twin for many years. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers, PGA golf and the Badgers. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever she could and making her famous graham cracker cakes for special occasions. Survivors include a son; Donald (Millie) Vogel, rural Kiel, a daughter; Nancy (Roger ) Gosse, Ada. daughters-in-law; Betty Vogel and Janet Vogel, both of Kiel. Sylvia is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Sheri (Mark) Duerwaechter, Jeff (Kris) Vogel, Steve (Cheryl) Vogel, Brian (Sara) Vogel, Maureen (Jim) Leurquin, Jason (Jenny) Vogel, Michele Vogel, Mike (Kerri) Vogel, Kristine (Dan) Genske, Corey (Jodi) Gosse. 21 great grandchildren; Amber & Adrea Duerwaechter, Mason Vogel, Jennifer & Tyler Lomibao, Caitlyn, Abby & Jacob Vogel, Madison & Holly Vogel, Jason & Sarah Leurquin, Eric & Boone Vogel, Alex & Anna Vogel, Joshua, Jessica & Justin Genske, Colin & Jordyn Gosse. Further survived by a brother; Roger Voigt, Sheboygan Falls, a sister-in-law; Joyce Voigt, Kiel along with numerous nieces and nephews. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Lester, 2 sons; Robert & Gene Vogel, parents; Edwin & Anna Voigt, brothers; Milton (Elvera) Voigt, Edwin Voigt, sister; Evelyn (Charles) Gerber, Evelyn's first husband Harold Braun, sister-in-law; Pat Voigt, and a nephew; Dennis Braun. Funeral Services for Sylvia will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday September 3, 2014 at St. Peter UCC, 424 Fremont St. Kiel with Rev. Judine Duerwaechter officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel City Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the CHURCH on Wednesday from 4:00pm until 5:45pm when we will have brief family rites. A memorial has been established in Sylvia's name for St. Peters United Church of Christ. Sylvia's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Homestead Care Center along with the nurses of Hospice Advantage for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Sylvia and her family.
