The death of an old settler like Mr. Adam Hartman excites special interest and sympathy in this community. He was born April 26, 1832, in Earl Township, Lancaster Co., Pa., and in 1842, when but ten years old, he came to Illinois with his parents, who located at Copenhagen among the first settlers in this county. From his boyhood days Mr. Hartman was known as a person of great industry and economy. He possessed other sterling qualities of character ____ ____ ____ ____ _____ community, as was evident by the large concourse of people at the funeral.
In 1850 he was married to Fianna Ressler who died about a year and a half ago. Owing to old age and the effects of a disease which stealthily crept upon him he retired from active farm life about seven years ago and moved to Naperville, where he spent the remaining years of his life.
It became evident that diabetes had established itself in his system, causing him a great deal of trouble and effecting a constantly growing weakness of his body. Many remedies were tried but none availed. Last week he was suddenly take ill. A physician was called in, but no help could be rendered. The disease had run its course and ere it was expected he fell asleep last Thursday forenoon, February 3, 1898, at the age of sixty-five years, nine months, and seven days. Four children mourn his departure.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from Salem Church. Rev. J. G. Fidder spoke in German and Bishop R. Dubs in English. May God's spirit lead and comfort the bereaved family.
