Funeral services for Gene Ashworth will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, September 4, 2014, at the White Oaks Memorial Chapel with Reverend Mark Swinnea and Reverend Burton Beard officiating. Committal service will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery of Oakdale under the guidance of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Gene, 60, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Monday, September 1, 2014 in the Rapides Regional Medical Center of Alexandria. He was born on July 16, 1954 in Oakdale to the union of Murphy and Ruby (Buxton) Ashworth. He was retired after 14 years from the pipeline Local 692. Gene was a longtime member of the Pawnee Hunting Club, where he shared a strong bond with his club members. He was an avid hunter and loved to cook for his hunting buddies. Gene was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle and a friend to all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Murphy Ashworth; son, Brandon Ashworth; and brother, Elmer Ashworth.
He leaves behind his loving family to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 43 years, Renee Ashworth of Oakdale; two sons, Kenneth Gene Ashworth and Mathew Ashworth (Sheila) all of Oakdale; three daughters, Terra Ashworth and Jessica Ashworth (Earl Holmes) all of Oakdale, and Denette Williamson (John) of Tioga; his mother, Ruby Ashworth of Oakdale; two brothers, Earnest Ashworth (Terra Evans) of Montana and Kenneth Dale Ashworth of Oakdale; one sister, Janice Sims (Terry) of Rayville; his grandchildren, Ethan, Terrance, Nic, Logan, Aubrey J., Justin L., Kerstin, Breana, Chelsie which will miss him greatly; and numerous nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
Pallbearers to serve will be Lamar Dousay, Coley Stockman, Gene Willis, Kenny Berry, Anthony Holmes, Berry Dousay, Roy Melbert, and Kornelius Davis.
