Swaburg Pioneer Dies
Olaf Lindquist, former pioneer resident of the Swaburg
neighborhood, passed away at Fremont on Monday evening of last
week, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 6 days. The deceased was
born in Mora, Dalarne, Sweden, on September 29, 1847. He emigrated
to the United States in 1870, coming first to Omaha and later to
this vicinity where he first farmed the place now occupied by
William Heyne just south of Uehling, and then the farm in Swaburg
where the Allan Anderson family now reside. In 1878 Mr. Lindquist
was united in marriage at Omaha to Miss Anna Peterson of Swaburg.
After retiring from farm life they moved to Omaha and later spent
several years in Canada and Minnesota, after which they established
a home in Uehling, where they resided until six years ago when they
moved to Fremont.
Mr. Lindquist is survived by his widow and a foster daughter, their
niece, Mrs. Frances Melin, of Howard Lake, Minn. There are also a
large number of other relatives among whom are Mrs. Andrew
Erickson, Andrew Olson and Eric Olson, niece and a nephews, of
Swaburg.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, with a short prayer
service at Fremont conducted by the Rev. Francis Pryor of the Salem
Lutheran church there, followed by the formal service at the
Congregational church in Uehling, with Dr. Leonard Stromberg,
pastor of the Swedish Methodist church of northwest of Oakland, in
charge. Mrs. Leroy Buck and Mrs. Swen Norlen sang several duet
numbers, with Mrs. Ivan Wedergren presiding at the piano. The
remains were interred in the family lot in the Baptist cemetery at
Swaburg.
