Civil War Union Army Soldier. A native of Cuba, he was mustered in as a recruit Private in Company D, 34th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on April 10, 1865 (New Jersey Adjutant General records lists him as "Saberino Bartista"). Transferred to Company I, he served until honorably mustered out at Mobile, Alabama on April 9, 1866.

On January 31, 1899 he filed for a US Army Invalid Veteran Pension (Application #1218154, Certificate #1011121, NY).

On January 7, 1908 his wife, Mattie O. Batista, filed for a US Army Widow's Pension (Application #882546, Certificate #660293, NY).
