Antonietta was born in Monteforte, Irpino, Avellino, Italy, on Dec. 13, 1924, daughter of the late Francisco and Sofia (Aurigemma) DeFazio. She emigrated to Canada in 1950, and later settled in Waterbury in 1956. She worked for Holgrath Manufacturing for many years until her retirement. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She enjoyed cooking, reading, doing ceramics, and crocheting.
Antonietta leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Joseph Geraci and his wife, Lori, and Salvatore "Ricky" Geraci Jr. and his wife, Donna, all of Waterbury; four daughters, Silvana Makarewicz and her husband, John, of Beacon Falls, Anna Richardson and her husband, Wayne, Sonia Velezis and her husband, Paul, with whom she made her home, and Marilyn McMahon and her husband, John, all of Waterbury; a sister, Carmella Valentino of Montreal, Canada; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a baby son, her brothers, Martin DeFazio and Dominic DeFasio, and a sister, Grace Pappadia-DeSumma.
Arrangements: Funeral will be held 8:30 a.m. Friday at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will follow in Calvary Queen of Peace Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gniadek and Dr. Borkowski for all the years of special care given to Antonietta, and to the Telemetry staff at Waterbury Hospital for the kindness and compassion shown to their mother.
