He also enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster August 22, 1864, as a private with Co. I, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry (182nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company July 8, 1865.
He married Mary E. lnu. and fathered Ulphana A. (b. @1874) and Harry Sylvester (b. 06/24/79). Mary's status is unknown, but he married Florence lnu. in 1891 and fathered Caroline Blanche (b. 01/16/92 - married Ambrose Herbert Chappell).
