Earl V. Lieske Sr.
OTTAWA — Earl V. Lieske Sr., 76, of Ottawa, formerly of Streator, died Friday afternoon, May 30, 2003, at Community Hospital of Ottawa.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Columba Church in Ottawa. The Rev. Thomas Shaw of St. Columba and the Rev. Christopher Layden of St. Patrick’s Church were the celebrants.
Burial was in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Pallbearers were Christian and Gabe Newbury, Henry and Earl Lieske III, Terry Williams and Dennis Blackford.
Visitation was 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. The rosary was recited at 3 p.m.
Born Nov. 7, 1926, in Butler, Pa., he was the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Bavolar) Lieske. He married Josephine Abbott on Sept. 11, 1948, at St. Mary’s Church in Streator. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Earl (Mary) Lieske Jr. of Ottawa; daughters, June Marie Lieske, at home, Carol (Mrs. John) Fraine, Joanne (Mrs. Bob) Iverson and Diane (Mrs. Brian) Neilsen, all of Ottawa; Peggy (Mrs. Brian) Allen of Grand Ridge; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Lieske of Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry and Clarence; and sisters, Eleanor Podkanowicz and Ruth Williams.
He was an Army veteran of Korea. He was a foreman at Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company for 30 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of St. Columba Church and Ottawa Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial fund to be established.
