Donald P. Beckrich age 87 of Cologne, formerly Shakopee passed away Friday September 5, 2014 at his home in Cologne.
Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday September 10, 2014 at 10:30 am at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne with Father Gregory Abbott as Celebrant of the Mass. Visitation Tuesday 4-8 pm and 1 hour prior to the Mass ALL AT THE CHURCH. Prayer service Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 pm. Interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Donald was born on July 27, 1927 in Eagle Creek Township of Scott County the son of Mathias and Mary (Marschall) Beckrich. He attended the St. Mark’s Catholic School in Shakopee. On June 29, 1946 Donald enlisted in the United States Army where he served until his Honorable Discharge on June 29, 1947 at Camp Stoneman, California. On October 10, 1950 Donald was united in marriage with Mary Feldmann at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shakopee. This union was blessed with a son Gerard.
Donald began working at a young age for Schanus Trucking where he hauled milk and freight. Later he worked for Minneapolis Moline and Minnesota Propane Gas Company. He had also done electrical and plumbing work and had retired from ADC in Bloomington in 1989. The same year he moved to Cologne where he spent his time helping his son on the farm.
Donald enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and going on adventures with grandson Jake. He loved helping friends with his many talents. Donald participated in many cowboy re-enactments in Shakopee where he was proud to be the driver of the stagecoach. He also enjoyed attending rodeos and watching western movies.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents Mathias and Mary Beckrich; brothers and sister-in-law Richard and Ann Beckrich, Gilbert Beckrich; sisters and brother-in-law Georgene and Vern Nelson, Mildred Beckrich.
Donald is survived by his loving family: wife Mary Beckrich of Cologne; son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Diane Beckrich of Cologne; grandchildren Jacob (Robin) Schneider of Norwood Young America, Phil Schneider of Cologne, Thomas Schneider of Cologne; great grandchildren Justice Maurer, Maddie Maurer, Ty Maurer, Courtney Maurer, Lane Schneider; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Barbara and Claude Lenzmeier of Mesa, AZ, Rose Beckrich of Cold Spring; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Serving as casket bearers Greg Beckrich, John Beckrich, Richard Eue, Gary Nelson, Rick Marschall, Matt Beckrich and honorary bearers Jenny Anderson and Bonnie Schweihs.
