Ada was the only daughter of Everett A. and Maria Gillespie (Lindsley) Budd from Ohio. In 1870, Everett was living in Delaware County and teaching school while Maria and Ada were living in Paulding County with tinner Thomas Gillespie and his wife, Julia. Everett and Maria later divorced and Maria remarried to Benjamin Wade. Ada had an eighth grade education. She married John Cable Hampton on 11 January 1883 in Defiance County and they had a daughter, Mildred. After John's death, Ada lived with her daughter, Mildred's (Pool) family. In 1935, they were living in Brooklyn, New York.
