Obediah Leonard was the son of John Leonard 1794-1870 and Elizabeth Cherry 1795-1870. He was killed at the Battle of Stones River (Murfreesboro) in TN and is buried there. He served with the Union in the Kentucky 9th infantry. He had 3 siblings: Robert, William and Lemuel. Lemuel also served with the Union and died in Nashville during the Civil War in 1862. He and Elizabeth had 6 children: John, Martha, Obediah Jr., Geneva, Ellender and Wm Anthony.Fought with the 9th division KY ,Died at the battle of stones river in Rutherford co TN, around 4 pm on Jan 2nd real close to where the battlefield information center is located the 9th Ky was in that area the last day of the war only lasted 45 min but It was Bloody.Obediah and his brother in law Claiborn Borden Both Lost there lives that day fighting for the Union .
