Motor racing driver. Born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Hawkins began his F1 career at the 1965 South African Grand Prix. He later emulated Alberto Ascari when he spun his Lotus 33 in Monaco and crashed into the harbour. A capable F1 driver, he was better known for racing Ford GT40 and Lola sportscars, and it was during the 1969 Tourist Trophy race at Oulton Park that he crashed at Island Bend and died in the fire.
