Actor. He will probably be best remembered for playing 'Archibald Ives, the Mole' in the star-studded adventure film "The Great Escape" (1963). Raised in Glasgow, he attended Eastbank Academy and after developing an interest in acting, he initiated his career as a performer in small stage productions. This led to a wider experience in theatre throughout Scotland and England. By the late 1950s, he began to appear on British television. In addition to playing Steve McQueen's tunnel-digging friend in "The Great Escape", he was familiar to TV audiences for the role of 'Shughie McFee' in the series "Crossroads" (1974 to 1980). Among his other film credits include "633 Squadron" (1964) and "Oh! What a Lovely War" (1969).
