Peter died between 1818 and 1820, he was living in Tunbridge, Orange County, Vermont but may have gone to "Ohio Country" to visit his son who was homesteading in what was later Meigs County. His wife Ruth died in 1816 and in 1818 a Peter Branch married Julia Page at Norwich. NFI

Peter Branch was described in history of Tunbridge as "a very tall sheep-shearer who settled north of Tunbridge village and could sheer many a day".

1776: Peter Branch is Revolutionary War Veteran; also served as Sergeant in Lexington Alarm, three days service, and during several enlistments during the Revolutionary War.  Peter Branch was in the 8th Regt of Militia at New York in 1776 under Captain Joseph Boardman; enlisted 8 Sept 1776 discharged 8 Oct 1776.  Also the name of Sergeant Peter Branch is found on a payroll for Captain Averill’s company for marching in an alarm to Fort Griswold on Groton Heights. Enlisted 13 July 1782, entered service 6 June 1781, time served, three days.  His name appears as Sergeant under "Miscellaneous Rolls" in Captain James Averill’s 3rd Militia Company from Preston, Connecticut. Our side lost this ferocious battle, detailed at

1789 Peter Branch of Norwich, Vermont, bought land from Sol Curtis (Tunbridge land records) At this time no roads existed and settlers found their way by marked or “blazed” trees. Most of the early settlers came from Connecticut and ended up in Norwich,Vt prior to Tunbridge. It was not an easy trip. For example from Mansfield,Ct to Norwich took 17 days and many walked it entirely on foot.
