ALEXANDRIA — Charles “Charlie” Wendell Bond, 82, of Alexandria, passed away on Sept. 22, 2014, at Community Hospital, Anderson, after an extended illness.

Charlie was born on Aug. 14, 1932, in Olive Hill, Ky., to George W. and Catherine (Reynolds) Bond.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy, and the National Guard, and retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors after 30 years. He was an avid gardener, loved watching birds, bowling, and tinkering in the garage. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War in Elwood, and served in the American Legion and the 40 & 8 for several years.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cuba “Cappie” (Alford) Bond; son, Michael (Anita) Bond; daughters, Cathy (Ernie) Amick, Ellen (Steve) Brady, Teresa (Mike) Ebert, and Dana (Mike) Harrington. He is also survived by his sister, Julia “T-Leaf” (Joel) Roemisch; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, and two grandsons. Per Charlie’s request, no memorial services will be held. The family will honor his wishes by placing his ashes in the family plot in Olive Hill, Ky., at a later date.
