JOHN W. COULBOURNE PASSED AWAY IN OHIO
Brought Here For Funeral On Monday Afternoon
Services Held From Home Of Daughter

Funeral services over the remains of Mr. John W. Coulbourne, who died at his home in Youngstown, Ohio, last Friday, were held at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace M. Quinn Monday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock.

Mr. Coulbourne, who was 82 years of age, had a short time before his death, undergone an operation for glandular trouble, and was apparently recovering rapidly, having returned home from the hospital, when he had a relapse and died within a few hours.

Born in Somerset county, he was the son of the late William Clarke Coulbourne and Milcha Coulbourne, representatives of the oldest Somerset families.

For many years, Mr. Coulbourne was engaged in the mercantile and oyster business at Coulbourne's Creek, near Marion, and at one time was one of the largest oyster shippers in the east. He was widely known and highly regarded and was successful both as a storekeeper and seafood packer.

More than twenty years ago he moved to Youngstown, Ohio where he engaged in the wholesale fruit and produce business, in which business he was interested at the time of his death.

For the most of his life that was spent in Somerset county, where he was born, Mr. Coulbourne had a wide acquaintanceship among the business and professional men, the farmers and the watermen. His business methods were such as to keep him high in the esteem of all with whom he had dealings. Coulbourne's Creek, where his store and oyster packing plant were located, was a busy place in the days when he was young and during the years that he operated there. It was because of his energy, ability, and farsightedness that he sought larger fields in which to operate.

Aside from his success in matters of commerce and trade, he was just as successful as a husband and father and useful member of the community. for a great many years he had been a member of the Methodist Protestant Church, loved to attend services, and moulded his life along the designs laid down by the Scriptures. Kindly, affable, all those with whom he came into intimate contact loved him and respected him for what he was, a man of unquestioned integrity and fidelity.

The funeral services were in charge of Chesapeake Lodge No. 147, A. F. & A. M., of which organization he had long been a member. Presiding at the ceremonies were Rev. C.M. Elderdice, pastor of Mt. Pleasant M.P. Church, assisted by Rev. J.T. Rowlenson, Pastor of Asbury M.E. Church, and Rev. Ziba Adams, pastor of Trinity Church, Marion.

The remains were laid to rest in the family plot in St. Paul's cemetery.

Mr. Coulbourne is survived by his widow, Mrs. Blanche Coulbourne of Youngstown, Ohio, one daughter, Mrs. Wallace M. Quinn, of Crisfield, and one son, Thomas Coulbourne, of Crisfield, and several grandchildren.
