Sculptor Caspar Buberl was born in Bohemia which is now part of the Czech Republic. In his youth he studied art in Vienna and Prague. He moved to the United States in 1854 and sculpted a number of Civil War monuments which included ten at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He is also noted for his architectural sculptures as well as his other historical monuments and memorials.
