Yvonne Sant Larsen Scott, 89, went home to our Father in Heaven on January 19, 2013.
She was born June 7, 1923 to Ernest Clifford Sant and Jennie Christina Nelson in Blackfoot, Idaho. Her family moved to Driggs, Idaho, in 1926, where she was raised.
Yvonne lived in Driggs, Idaho, most of her life. The youngest child with four older brothers, she was raised to work hard, value honesty, and help others. As a teen, she worked at the theater collecting tickets for 75¢ an hour. She also helped support her family by selling Rawleigh goods door-to-door. In 1941, after graduating from high school and attending LDS Business School for six months, Yvonne enlisted and proudly served two years in the United States Army.
Yvonne was married to Earl Larsen in 1947. They purchased the family grocery store in Driggs, ID. They raised their five children in the apartment behind the store and the house Earl built on the corner lot. The family worked together as a team. Yvonne and Earl later developed a small motel and a trailer court, where they met many people and made life-long friends.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in a variety of callings. With the help of Earl she compiled a history of the Driggs LDS Stake that was published into a book.
Yvonne and Earl were sealed in the Provo Temple in February of 1973. In June of 1992, Earl passed away. Yvonne later married long-time friend Harry Scott. They were companions for 16 years.
Yvonne was well known for her skill as a seamstress. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and many of her children and grandchildren were grateful recipients of her beautiful work. She also taught sewing classes and was always willing to help others with various projects. Yvonne had a lovely alto voice and sang with the singing group the Mellodettes at various church functions and funerals.
Yvonne was always learning and didn’t let her age prevent her from doing new things. When she was 70 years old, she bought a computer and learned how to do family history online. She and Harry spent many hours researching and recording their genealogy. When Yvonne was 80 years old, she learned how to play the organ. She would sometimes play for hours and enjoyed learning new music and going to lessons.
Her grandchildren will always remember the candy tin she kept on top of the fridge and the diet pop inside.
Yvonne is survived by her second husband, Harry Scott, her five children—Della Larsen, Roger Larsen (Marilee), Christine Irving (John), Rance Larsen (Denise), and Jana Johnson (Marc)—and step-son Bob Scott (Lamar), 29 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Eastview LDS Ward (2349 Virlow). The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 9:30-10:45 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Darby Cemetery, in Teton Valley, Idaho.
