Born the eldest daughter of the nine children of Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy and Catherina Michaela of Spain. She married Francesco IV Gonzaga in 1608 and bore him three children of which only the eldest survived. Monteverdi composed his opera "L'Arianna" on the occasion of her wedding. Philipp IV named her Vicereine of Portugal in 1621.
