Betty Jacquelyn (Clark) Weiss, 90, died on Sept. 25, 2014, in Greeley. Betty was born in her family home southeast of Gothenburg, Neb., on Jan. 30, 1924, to James and Sara (Lindberg) Clark. She attended Potter W32 Country School from first through eighth grades and then graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1941.

Betty attended the American School of Business in Omaha and then worked at Gothenburg State Bank until she discovered she was allergic to the ink found on paper money. She enjoyed various interesting jobs in McCook, Lincoln and Kansas City. She married Glen Weiss on June 2, 1952, and they had four children, Michael, Linda, Steven and Matthew.

Betty was primarily a housewife and mother, but as her children grew older she re-joined the work force and eventually retired from her secretary’s job at the University of Northern Colorado in 1985. She said her most rewarding job was that of a Head Start teacher when her family spent two years living on the island of Guam. Glen and Betty raised their children on a farm east of Gilcrest, Colo., and then moved to Greeley when they retired. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greeley.

Betty is survived by her husband, Glen; children and their spouses, Michael, Linda, Steven (Susie) and Matthew (Lorri); grandchildren, Patrick, Heather, Lindsey, Brian and Kelsey; step-grandchildren, Brynn and Ian; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Dale Clark (Ardith); her brothers and sisters in-laws, Jerry Weiss, Frances Clark, Mary Ann Stinette, Delores Weiss, and Kay Weiss; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Sara Clark; her in-laws, Clayton and Mary Weiss; brothers, Roger and Van; her daughter-in-law, Diane Weiss; and numerous brothers and sisters in-law and their spouses.

Betty was well known among family and friends for her love and skills in cooking, sewing, quilting, and knitting. She authored a family cookbook for both the Clark and Weiss families. She will be remembered by those who knew her well for her warm hospitality, sense of humor, optimistic viewpoint, charismatic personality and dedicated love for her children, grandchildren and her husband of 62 years. She leaves this thought to her family and friends, “I feel very fortunate to have lived an enjoyable long life with a loving family that has brightened each day.”

Funeral services and a Mass will take place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greeley. Her ashes will be buried with her husband’s at some point in the future at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Neb.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, you consider donating to either the Bright Focus Foundation at www.brightfocus.org or another charity of your choice.
