Dale James Clark, 88, of Brady, died April 3, 2016, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

He was born on March 6, 1928, in Gothenburg, the son of James S. and Sara (Lindberg) Clark. Dale attended grade school at District No. 32, Potter School south of Gothenburg. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1946. While in high school, Dale was captain and center of the state championship football team in 1945. He was involved in Future Farmers of America and G-Club.

In 1946, Dale joined the U.S. Navy and served his country in various locations as an aviation electronics technician. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Dale returned to the Gothenburg area to begin a lifelong farming and ranching operation.

Dale married Betty Lou Miller in 1951 and they had three children, Jeffrey, Rick and Susan. Betty died in 1974. Dale married Ardith (Nansel) Sheets on Dec. 31, 1976, and became a father to her six children, Michael, Patty, Chris, Joyce, John and Clint. Family gatherings were important, along with teaching his family to love the land.

Dale enjoyed horses, dogs and cattle. Dale served on the Brady School Board for many years, the Dawson Public Power District for 41 years and Lincoln County ASCS for 25 years. Dale was a member of the Banner United Methodist Church and served on various church committees.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sara; his first wife, Betty; son, Jeff Clark; brothers, Roger and Van Clark; sister, Betty Weiss; and sisters-in-law, Imogene Bailey, Fern LeMaster and Eldene Pollatt.

Survivors include his loving wife, Ardith, of Brady; five sons, Rickie J. (Coleen) Clark, of Gothenburg, Michael (Heidi) Sheets, of North Platte, Chris (Sandra) Sheets, of Castle Rock, Colorado, John (Jeannie) Sheets, of Gothenburg, and Clint (Christy) Sheets, of Wallace; three daughters, Susan (Randy) Schroeder, of Gibbon, Patty (Ike) Miller, of North Platte, and Joyce (Rick) Buhlke, of Juniata; daughter-in-law, Laurie Clark, of Gothenburg; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Glenn Weiss, of Greeley, Colorado, Jerry (Rosemary) Miller, of Kearney, Ralph (Karla) Nansel, of Arnold, and Bob Bailey, of Elkhorn; sisters-in-law, Frances Clark, of Gothenburg, Maxine Cain, of Denver, Theda (Lawrence) Coleman, of Broken Bow, and Shirley Bassett, of Arnold; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, at First United Methodist Church, 1401 Lake Ave., Gothenburg, with the Rev. Janie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Peckham Cemetery in Gothenburg with military honors. Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, is in charge of the arrangements.
