Justus (Beardsley) (my father) was born in Washington, Conn. May 8, 1794. Married Lucy Manchester at Dover, (Dutchess Co) NY Dec 5, 1815 in which place he resided until he moved to Monroe Co. in 1820. His occupation while in Dutchess Co. was school teaching. In Monroe Co. he first engaged in farming but subsequently moved to the village of Gairport in the same county where he engaged in the insurance business, was elected Justice of the Peace, which office he held for a number of years. Was a member of the Baptist Church. A thorough reformer, and inclined to be radical in temperance and political, he was an uncompromising opponent of American slavery and lived to see the end of that institution. He died at Fairport, Monroe Co., NY, Dec 29, 1867; Lucy his wife, died March 2, 1882. (Written by Anson Beardsley)
