Ms. Cannon was born in Caldwell County to the late Henry Cannon and Almetta Lee Crump Cannon. She was a graduate of Lenoir High School and studied interior design with the Chicago School of Interior Design and worked with John Frye of John Frye Decorators in Hickory. She worked at The Guarantee Store and Belk Dept. Store where she was a Ready to Wear Buyer. She served on the Cancer Society board and the Caldwell County Sesquicentennial Committee, a member of the Caldwell County Business and Professional Women's Club, a charter member of the Caldwell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hat Society. She was active in the Caldwell County Historical Society, working with the Bridge to Bridge bicycle race each year and has volunteered with the Caldwell County Heart Association. She babysat for many families and loved their children as her own. She was a collector of porcelain dolls, Depression glass, antiques and any item associated with Queen Elizabeth and Lady Diana.
Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Van "Bud" Cannon of Lenoir; nephews, David and Sidney Cannon of Lenoir; her niece Danyll "Frostie" Reece of Morganton; great nieces, Sarah,Stacie and Cassie; her cousin Nina L. Carpenter of Morganton who was raised as her sister. Also surviving is a very special friend and caregiver, Patty Bolick.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Bill Bentley officiating. The family will receive friends at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ron Stillwell, Benny Brittain, Hunter Crump, Tom Bolick, Steve Pilkenton and Matthew Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC, or the charity of your choice.
