Van "Bud" McNairy Cannon, 83, of Lenoir, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 6, 2015 at Grace Hospital.

Mr. Cannon was born in Caldwell County to the late Henry Cannon and Almeada Crump Cannon. He was a retired truck driver with over 30 years of service at Signal Delivery Inc. He was a veteran of the US Army, NASCAR team member and truck driver. He was a team member for the 1972 NASCAR Rookie Driver of the Year, Larry Smith and the 1999 Winston Racing Series Champion, Max Prestwood, Jr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn Cannon; his brothers, Sidney and Bob Cannon; his sisters, Ruby Cannon, Ginger Cannon and Mavis Adkins.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Sidney Cannon and David Cannon, both of Lenoir; his granddaughter, Sarah Greene and husband Shane of Lenoir, and great grandchildren, Sophie and Stephen Greene.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 10, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in Pendry's Chapel with Reverend Bill Bentley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
