Thomas Jefferson Noyes was born in Vermont and studied medicine in New Hampshire. He came to Milwaukee in 1836 and married Julia Ann Reed (1806-1881). They had one daughter, Frances Noyes, who married Frank Crosby.

On February 14, 1837, Thomas was elected President of the Milwaukee Academy of Medicine, Milwaukee's first medical society. Thomas also owned the Milwaukee House, a large boarding house and hotel.

Julia and Thomas followed Julia's brother, Curtis Reed (1815-1895), to Menasha, Wisconsin. Curtis was one of the early pioneers in establishing and settling Menasha. Thomas became the town's first physician.

Soon after November of 1848, Thomas developed "gold rush fever" and headed for California. He was last heard from as he crossed the Rockies.
