Julia was born Julia Ann Reed, and was the oldest daughter of Seth Reed and Rhoda Finney Reed. She married Dr. Thomas Jefferson Noyes in about 1836 in Milwaukee. Her husband was a physician and eventually was a pioneer in what became Menasha, Wisconsin. He was the first medical doctor there and one of the early residents. Julia and Thomas had one child, Frances, that was said to be the first white child born in Menasha. At some point, Julia's husband got gold fever and headed west to California. The last they heard from him was a letter their daughter received when he reached the Rocky Mountains. Julia then moved to Milwaukee, where she lived out her life and eventually lived with her daughter, Frances, and her husband, Frank Crosby and their children.
