Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 12th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 13, 1862, and was mustered in as a Private in Company H on September 4, 1862. He then served through the balance of the conflict, and was promoted to Corporal on May 1, 1865. He was honorably mustered out on June 4, 1865.

Married Rachel Mickel on January 1, 1873.
