Opelousas - A private celebration of his life will be held for Cecil Guile LaCaze at a later date.

Mr. LaCaze, age 93, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Monday, October 13, 2014, at his residence.

A retired Army Captain, Cecil served his country proudly for twenty one years, which included WWII and the Korean War. Cecil completed the first thesis ever written on crawfish and earned his Master’s Degree at LSU after retiring from the Army. He later wrote a book about crawfish which helped countless crawfish farmers with their ponds and crops. He served as District Six Supervisor of Wildlife and Fisheries for several years. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sons, Michael LaCaze of San Diego, CA; Joe LaCaze of Opelousas, LA; Nakia LaCaze of New Orleans, LA; his daughters, Marti Beard of Houston, TX; Terri Case of Virginia Beach, VA; his sisters, Ava Carter of Kinder, LA and Margaret Ann LaCaze of Pollock, LA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo LaCaze; his parents, John and Jessie LaCaze; and his brother, John (Aubry) LaCaze.
