Sheep Rancher, Politician and Judge. He graduated from Norwich University in 1823 and raised sheep in Shoreham, Vermont. In 1835 he sold out to relatives and relocated to Conneaught, Pennsylvania, where he continued to raise sheep, and was an unsuccessful Whig candidate for Congress. In 1847 he moved to Lapeer, Michigan, where he served in several political offices, including Town Supervisor, Justice of the Peace, Judge of the County Court, Judge of the County Probate Court, and member of the Michigan Board of Agriculture.
