Lest we forget !
Our wonderful, kind and loving father, Stuart Francis Allaby, grand and great grandfather passed away on July 21, 2015. Our father was a young spirited gentleman all of his 90 years. Dedicated and joyously married to Ruth Eileen (Jewett), residing in Truro NS, they shared an eventful life together filled with family events, travel,
commitment to work and community.
Dad lived a life filled with great humor, life sustenance (faith, food and laughter) and was surrounded by love; he was to his family–irresistible. Born in Bloomfield Station, Kings County, NB on August 6th 1924, an identical twin (Cedric) and was the son of the late Barrington and Bertha Reid Allaby. Stuart adored his three brothers (Spurgeon, Donald and Cedric) who were raised in the mixed farming community of Norton and Sussex NB. Following his graduation from Norton Superior High School in 1942 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (R.C.A.F.). Following his military service, he enrolled in the Nova Scotia (NS) Agricultural College and completed his B.Sc. (Agr.) at McGill University, Quebec, in 1951. Stuart made a lifetime commitment to agriculture and the people in the industry and professional community. He made many significant contributions towards the advancement of the agricultural and poultry industry in NS and Canada. First working for the NS Department of Agriculture and Marketing (NSDAM) as poultry specialist in 1951, Stuart went on to be Director of Technical Services for the Maritime Co-operative. In 1964, he rejoined NSDAM as Provincial Poultry Superintendent and in 1975 was appointed Director of the Livestock Services Branch which he held until his retirement in 1986. Stuart was a founding partner of ABS Chick Hatchery, New Minas, which is now a part of the ACA Co-operative. Throughout his career, Stuart effectively promoted efficient production and marketing of the poultry industry and established a sound financial foundation in NS. He encouraged the development of supply management programs in Canada and continued to serve those programs acting as Chairman of the NS Natural Products Marketing Council. He was a co-owner of LifeLine Software Consultants
Stuart had a strong Christian faith and lived a life he felt was reflective of these beliefs. He was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church, Truro.
