Estelle H. Perry, 96, formerly of Montreal Street, died Monday at a Portland hospital.

She was born on Great Chebeague Island, a daughter of Dr. Leon and Alice Curit Hale, and graduated from Attleboro High School in Attleboro, Mass. She also graduated from the Farmington Normal School.

She did graduate work at Columbia University and the University of New Hampshire. She studied Art at Teachers College in Willimantic, Conn., and the Portland School of Art. She received her bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Southern Maine, Gorham.

She had teaching positions in Mexico, Cape Elizabeth and Portland.

Mrs. Perry co-authorized ''The Story of Maine for Young Readers,'' a textbook used in the public schools of the state.

Her husband, Charles A. Perry [SAR Membership Number: 29529], and a stepson, Cmdr. Frank C. Perry, died previously.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Helen Hale of Windham; and several grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pine Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hay & Peabody.
