Andrew McLean I was born on February 24, 1779 near Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. His parents were likely Daniel and Ann (Millar) McLean. Andrew was a cotton weaver. He was married two times. His first wife was Agnes Gibson (parents unknown). They were married on July 19, 1799 in Glasgow. Andrew and Agnes had eleven children named Andrew II, Margarate, Martha, Alexander, Ann, Mary Wigham (Mrs. David George Roy), Janet, John, Estelle, Catherine, and Catherine Pickerton. The McLeans' last residence was at 39 Drygate in Tollcross (now part of Glasgow). After Agnes died on November 15, 1834, Andrew immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City (His son, Andrew McLean II, had already settled there and established a cotton goods company in Manhattan in 1826). On July 31, 1836 Andrew I married Maria Dutcher (parents unknown) in New York. He died on April 12, 1841 in Manhattan and was buried at the "41st Burial Grounds". Then on March 9, 1852 he was reinterred at the Green-wood Cemetery with a grandson named William.
