The Republican Leader - June 12, 1896
"Again grim death has pressed his icy fingers upon one of our most highly respected citizens in the person of Mr. Simeon Pollard, who was 67 years 9 months and 5 days old. He was a consistent member of the Christian church and a deacon for more than 30 years. He was loved and honored by all who knew him, was a kind husband and loving father, and the oldest resident of this place having resided here before the town was laid off. He departed this life Sunday evening June 7, 1896, at 8:15 p.m. The funeral took place at the Christian church Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock conducted by his pastor, Eld. Thomas Brock, assisted by Revs. M. C. Clark, J. S. Denny and E. L. Butler. He leaves a wife and four daughters, all of whom were present except one, Mrs. Lode Young, who resides in New York. He had suffered for many months of cancer of the bowels. Much sympathy is extended the bereaved relatives."
