Mr. Mejia was employed by Silgan Containers for 15 years. Before that, he worked for Swift & Co., Armour and Co., and Krause Milling, all which have closed.
Born in St. Jopeph on Nov. 19, 1935, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.
Mr. Mejia was a graduate of Benton High School and served in the Army. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Steel Worker's Union Local No. 2. He was a former member of the Men's Club of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
On April 30, 1960, he married Pauline Guardado. She survives of the home.
Mr. Mejia was preceded in death by his parents, David and Soledad; three brothers, David Jr., Paul Sr., and Samuel; and maternal grandmother, Mercedes Carrion.
Additional survivors: two brothers, Robert, Missouri City, Texas, and Ruby M. St., St. Joseph; and four sisters, Martha Chavez, Sarah Juarez and Elizabeth Valencia, all of St. Joseph; and Mary L. Littlejohn, Eugene, Oregon.
Mass of Christian Burial: Oct. 7, 1999, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Joseph, Mo.
Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo.
